The Credit Card Vending Machine -- New Technology for Today's Consumers

You've probably seen your share of vending machines. After all, the vending machine industry offers many people a way to make money in a way that's fairly simple. You provide the stocked vending machine, the customers insert money in exchange for their item, and you collect the money. For ages, vending machines accepted coins. Then, they were built to accept not only coins but dollars as well. The newest innovation in the industry is that of the credit card vending machine. As its name suggests, this type of machine accepts credit cards as a form of payment.

In today's society, many people choose to use their credit cards instead of cash. One reason is security. Let's face it -- crime is a problem in the world. If your cash is stolen, it's likely you won't get it back. However, if your credit card is stolen, you can call the credit card company to report the incident and protect yourself from loss. The company will likely cancel the stolen card and send you a replacement with a brand new account number. Another reason people prefer to use credit cards is because many cards come with rewards like cash back and frequent flyer miles. The more the card is used, the more rewards can be reaped.

The new credit card vending machines are certainly more costly than the traditional dollar and cents type of machine. Not only are you paying for top-notch technology, you're paying for the actual processing of each transaction. However, if your machine or machines are placed in a good location, you can make these costs back and then some. Potentially good locations for these types of machines include large shopping malls, airports, universities and large office buildings.

You may be wondering what type of merchandise you can offer in your credit card vending machine. Anything that can be sold in a traditional vending machine can be sold in one of these machines. Most of the time, these machines not only take credit cards but cash and coins as well. Your machine can sell beverages, food, candy, novelty items and even larger items like DVDs and prepaid phone cards. DVDs and phone cards work especially well with these types of machines because they cost more. While this type of vending machine may not be right for everyone, it can potentially be profitable for a business owner who has secured a high-traffic location.
